Can you send SMS + MMS messages using Continuity in Yosemite in Ireland (Vodafone) ?

Can you send SMS + MMS messages using Continuity in Yosemite in Ireland (Vodafone) ?

I'm running 10.10.1 on my MacPro 12 Core (with Continuity Activation Tool successfully installed).

If I start an email I can continue on my Mac or Vice versa on my iPhone 6 Plus or iPad Air 2.... but I thought Continuity/Handoff also allowed you to send SMS messages to non iPhone users.... but if I start a message on my iPad using message and try and send to a non-iPhone users it won't allow me to send and the same using iMessage on my Mac.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a problem with my mobile phone provider Vodafone that they don't support this feature.

Has anyone had a similar experience.

Any comments or suggestions most welcome.

    Regards,
    Anthony

Check settings > Messages. Is text message forwarding enabled?

Hi Zcott..... it was enabled.... so thanks for that helpful insight.... but I enabled it and connected using the passcodes on both my MacPro and iPad Air 2 and I still can't get a text to send to my brother who doesn't have an iPhone... it hangs at the very last part of the progress to send bar and then I get a NOT DELIVERED alert... so annoying to be so close... I wonder does it take time for the network to setup this... ? did it work instantly for you...?

Cheers again for all your help... and here's wishing a very happy new year to you and your family.

Get your brother to send you a message while you have it open and then you should be able to reply to it. Just don't delete the thread and you should be good to go.

It's nothing to do with Vodafone anyway, because I can send and receive texts from my Macbook to non iPhone users without an issue. I'm with vodafone also. I would try what Zcott recommended.

    Hi there Zcott and Aeternum...

thanks again for your help and patience in relation to this issue.... but I still can't it to work... I seem to be able to receive the SMS messages alright... as I received a green one today... but when I go to reply... it just won't send successfully.

My Apple Mac is a MacPro 12Core from 2010.... so I'm using the CAT tool plus a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle to get continuity to work... all the other features work perfectly... except for this one feature which would be really helpful as I have no 3G signal where I live and my broadband is not compatible with the Vodafone SureSignal solution... so to be able to send and receive SMS texts from non iPhone users through my wifi would be a huge help as I work from home.

    Thanks again.

    Regards,
    Anthony

Just to check, you can definitely send texts from your phone?

    Hi Zcott...

Yes I can send and receive text messages no probs.

One thing that did happen since my last post to you was that, (where I live I have no 3G signal) so when I drove to the nearest town I received a slew of texts on my iPhone 6 Plus. When I got back home to my office with my phone, I could see them inside my iMessage app... proving I think that I can now receive texts through my phone/wifi/continuity/hand-off. I tried to reply once more and it failed... but I tried again and my reply message went blue and it said delivered... so something is going on.... but that was progress I reckon in the right direction.

Again thanks for all your replies and suggestions in relation to this issue.

The texts send VIA your iPhone, so if your phone does not have the signal to send the message then I don't think the Mac can either.

    Hi again Aeternum....

Thanks again for your reply.... I thought this new feature worked exclusively through my WiFi network... but if it works in conjunction with with Vodafone 3G or 4G then that explains why it's not working for sure.

I might try Vodafone again to see if I can get their SureSignal device to work with my line of sight broadband.

Thanks again to you and Zcott for all your help and assistance with this.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!! :)

    Anthony
