A little more information would be helpful.

What year is the car? and what part of Leinster?

I'm going to assume its like the scenic where the mechanism seizes with age

    Ask around OP

Edenderry but will to travel Meath Kildare Dublin etc. Handbrake wasnt engaging correctly when parked which meant car left in gear. when driving the noise created sounds like a part of the handbrake is resting on moving parts. would the electric handbrake be a main dealer repair or would it be a common problem with which any decent local mechanic be able to sort out.

I can refer you to a mechanic with years of Renault experience in Enfield if you'd like also. Problem with the handbrakes on these is they are seldom repairable and second hand are like hens teeth.....had to replace the unit on the wife's scenic last year after the brushes in the motor disintegrated

    Just to follow up:
I found someone local who sorted me out. So thanks for the recommendations all the same. I was expecting an expensive repair but ended up costing me €80 and the renault is running as good as ever. Badly worn rear brake bads resulted in the electric handbrake not engaging fully and in turn prompting the service fault indicator on the dashboard. I was convinced the handbrake was completely banjoed as when moving you could here friction from moving parts. Anywho all sorted and hopefully might be of help to some other lucky Renault owner ;)

    Good you got it sorted

    "some other lucky Renault owner"

Is that not a bit of a contradiction though??

not sure bout a contradiction but definetly meant to be sarcasm. Personally as a seven seater i love the car except for the stupid electrics, specifically the electric key card start and the electric handbrake, both have been causing snags.
