    Hi,
Sorry if posted in wrong forum.
I was wondering of anyone has experience of alpacas or more specifically the management of them.
I currently keep a few sheep and am interested in changing things a bit, is the register the same etc?
    Thank you in advance:

Coin, can't offer any direct help but if you use the search tool for this forum you will see a fair few older threads that might help.

As this is the newest thread on the subject, thought I would add this an Article on how the Alpaca price bubble burst in the US.

Priced one years ago, Think it was something 3000 for a breeding female. What's the market for them pets?

I am trying to figure if its worth getting into, right now it seems the money is in the offspring and that is based on there being a market in the future for the fleece. Makes sense, approx 3.5M Alpaca's world wide, limited supply so demand should be high, but I have no evidence it actually is. The maths here is informative http://www.alpacasofireland.com/alp.asp?tid=Business_considerations but again it based on the value of offspring.

But then https://ukalpaca.com/selling-your-fleece, so average price per kilogram would be around 10 euro. 5kg per animal 50 euro per head annual. Produces quality wool for 14 years so gross 700 euro. This would not pay for itself!

These things are like a pyramid scheme.
Get in early, breeding them to sell as a sure thing to punters looking for "the next sure thing in farming" then get out before people realise it's just a fad and they become worthless.

    Think deer !!
