If I watch the programme I feel that I'm in some way condoning her existence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,877 ✭✭✭purplecow1977

    It's on TLC

As someone who is very overweight, I actually don't want to gouge her eyes out (yet)

She seems to have realised that food for many overweight people has an emotional connection.

For others, food is simply functional.

Oh how I wish it was simply functional for me!

I know, but it's the type of carcrash tv :-(

I know it will just anger me really.

Why does it anger you that she can lose weight?

    (That's assuming she does it)

She hasn't been particularly insulting to fat people in it.

Why do you think it angers me that she can lose weight? I never once said that.

"I hate you fat people for making me do this" isn't insulting?

I did think she would be worse, but she wasn't in the 30 minutes I saw. I've heard worse.

Seen it advertised and won't be watching. She is a terrible excuse for a human being. I'm sure that she will come out with some outrageous comments to get the ratings up.

Fat people have made her do it though, not forced but they put the notion forward that it's x, y or z excuse and so now she is attempting to prove that that's rubbish.

She was upset at how bad she felt after eating all that stuff, not really an insult then to reference the cause. She actually looked quite venerable then, wasn't the same as just having a dig.

If she does prove it by losing it then.. well she's proved it so I don't know how anyone can be angry about it/argue it then.

Although she has pointed out she understands the reasons behind it now (something to do with her not being able to run and comparing that to people eating)

Again, you're not answering the question I asked.

I didn't say I'm angry because she lost weight.

She annoys me because she's an arrogant and ignorant twat.

And yes, it is an insult because fat people are not the cause of her doing this. Her desire for fame & fortune is the cause.

What exactly is she ignorant of after this show and completing the weight gain and loss?

So she lacks knowledge on weight and fatness still after going through being fat and managing to lose the fat?
    Interesting.

Or is her opinion, even after being proven to be correct and her leading by example, somehow invalid because she's rude?

Hint: it's not and she's not even really being rude on this one from what I've seen.

Ignorant can also mean rude. Did you even click the link?

I had no doubt that she would lose the weight. I've switched it over now but I assume she does succeed. It doesn't mean it's that easy for others though. She's too much of a gob to be left red-faced if she failed. Embarrassing and humiliating someone are not the right ways to go about re-educating them. Her main peeve seems to be the cost to the tax payers via the NHS. She doesn't genuinely care whether someone is overweight her not - she cares about her pocket. Education regarding exercise and nutrition is needed, most definitely, but she is not going the right way about it.

And I already stated that I hadn't thought she was being as rude as I've seen her in the past. Have you read ANY comments written here?!

I know, and included it in my response. Did you even read the post you quoted?

It won't surprise me if she doesn't make it in the timeline she set herself. We'll soon find out I guess.
She doesn't genuinely care whether someone is overweight her not - she cares about her pocket.

Obviously. And why should she? She's been goaded into this because of her harsh, rude, etc comments on fat people so she's putting her money where her mouth is so to speak.
And yes she'll be paid for it. This is not ususual.
And I already stated that I hadn't thought she was being as rude as I've seen her in the past. Have you read ANY comments written here?!

You're just after saying she was ignorant and then gone on to explain that in the context you said it you meant rude.

And as I said, that doesn't invalid anything and doing this is definitely taken her out of the 'ignorant' bracket in the other sense.

So to wrap up then, she's not being rude (you agree) and she's not lacking in knowledge. So we'll take it that you've retracted the 'ignorant' tag then.

No, what I said was she IS rude but wasn't AS rude in this particular occasion as she has been in the past.

I know nothing about the woman but I thought it was a good balanced documentary.

I wouldn't watch anything that she is a part of. If everybody else did this then she is another problem solved.

Hopkins sparked fury when she tweeted about "little sweaty jocks", adding: "Sending us Ebola bombs in the form of sweaty Glaswegians just isn't cricket."

Her comment came hours after nurse Pauline Cafferkey was diagnosed with the killer disease and transferred to a specialist unit at a hospital in London.

what a stupid cnut, and to think she won a race against few million sperm ?

This was one of the funniest things Ive seen on TV in recent times. Her quotes and gall are literally amazing. She is the Queen of trolling thats for sure.

I was laughing my head off because she was simply reporting it how it is without all the emotional pish that stops people from telling fatties to stop stuffing their faces. Its simple mathematics, less calories in than you use and you will lose weight. Anything else is pure excuses.

Never thought I would see myself supporting the girl, but I loved the show and I personally love trolling, so at least she is clever enough to make money out of doing it.

While I agree that the emotional element is way overdone on pretty much all shows of this nature, I would not be a fan of putting the message across so bluntly. You are right though, it is at the end of he day a numbers game as regards calories, but I just think that there are psychological issues to take into account also. I don't think Hopkins putting things across in the way she does helps anything....except maybe her public profile and bank account. I don't understand why its she finds acceptable to treat overweight people with such contempt, at the end of the day they have not committed a serious crime.

Does anyone know if this is available to view on line anywhere? Programmes are usually available on youtube but I cannot find anything and there doesn't seem to be a TLC on demand service... I want to watch it.

Watched this last night and enjoyed it! It was quite motivational. She definitely made a difference to the participants in her 'Fat Club' and they seemed delighted with their weight loss at the end. I like her can do approach / positive attitude.

Her approach to weight loss seems better than other diets in that she ate whatever she wanted whenever she felt like it rather than starving herself but also worked her ass of by exercising.

    Well done I'd say :)

I was hungry after watching it :p

Saying controversial stuff to troll people is her job - and people's sometimes overblown reactions are exactly what she's looking for. So people really really should just ignore when she's going on with that crap.
Whenever she's just being normal and leaving out that shyte, she doesn't seem like a bad person at all.
What she says about excessive weight gain in terms of how it's not genetic, is not unreasonable. The attitude of that woman Nicky in the US (she could hardly move - 800lbs or something) and her partner (adonis-bodied - so he can't think being massive is THAT great) was atrocious (she wanted a bigger ass... wtf?)

And some employers probably *wouldn't* want to hire very obese people.

She asked for a few rugby-players to give honest opinions about her physique and she stood in front of them in her bra and knickers. They said she was way too skinny, anorexic-looking, unattractive, and she took it on board and considered that maybe she wasn't living healthily herself.

The weight gain hasn't made her look fat at all though - apart from her stomach. Her new ass looks great. If she just lost the tummy flab, that would be enough - she'd look healthy.
It's good that there was acknowledgement people can put on weight for deeper reasons other than just enjoying food too much though.

That woman in the green shirt........."I'm a fitness instructor"........"this is a hate crime". Holy mother of god  was she stoned when they were filming, what planet does she live on??? Fitness instructor jeeeaysus! I wouldn't go to her classes!!

Katie Hopkins is controversial and obnoxious but I was impressed by that documentary and in particular the results from Fat Club and how she put herself in front of the rugby boys in her undies and took the criticism on board.

While she comes across a little abrupt at times I do admire her for her honestly and telling it like it is. As a lady who needs to lose some weight I agree with her 'eat less move more' theory.

I don't think Eat Less Move More is a radical idea!

Every overweight person knows that theory!

    KH insults.

In any walk of life, where is scorn, hurt and insults helpful?
