I see strava are offering training plans now. Anyone taken a look at them? I was going to sign up for one. As far as I can see they are included as part of the premium package.

I need a bit of advise on how to use the plans. My main aim for the year is to be able to do the long sportives. Wicklow 200 specificely but maybe others. The main thing I want to concentrate is endurance i.e. purely the mileage but also improve climbing. The plan I was looking at was the 30 minute climb, which looks intense. Should I follow the plan and do a very long climb once a week, should I just concentrate on endurance, stick to the plan only or in the short term get endurance up follow plans later in the year.

Sorry I know its a lot of questions, but I want to start training with a bit of focus and science but don't have a clue where to start.

I found the plans to be quite intensive - i did the 8 minute climb one. It was good, but had a lot of high intensity intervals. I would have thought that the wicklow 200 would require more endurance. The 30 or 40 minute climb should be good for building endurance (at a guess - I havent seen the contents of the plan yet). When I was training for the pyrenees, I just rode my bike lots and went up hills whenever i could. I didnt go fast or anything, instead I worked on pacing myself.

If you have a turbo then i found Trainer Road a very good place to start - you can pick a specific sportif programme and it'll give you a good plan to get you there in good shape.
