Hi guys, I'm looking to getaway to somewhere in Europe in mid February, probably the 13th to the 16th for my girlfriends birthday. I'm pretty open about any destination so any recommendations would be appreciated. Looking for something around €400-500 or below! Anyone know of anywhere that's cheapish and maybe romantic too? Throw anything you have at me!

Amalfi Coast, sorrento, capri. can't really go wrong in that part of the world.

can easily be combined with a trip to rome which is about an hour north of naples via high speed rail

Considering the weekend in it, for something reasonable in your price range you will really have to avoid European capitals however Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Prague and Madrid all have flights for around 200 for both of you. Anywhere else you are talking almost double flight flights alone. No difference in prices between Ryanair and Aer Lingus however Aer Lingus sale ends 9th.

Prague is nice and will probably offer best value for money over there.

Have you been to Prague? Recommend it?

I wouldn't describe Duesseldorf as Romantic
You can get easily to Vienna via flying to Bratislava.

I would prefer skiing in the Alps - but that could blow your budget.

Always wanted to go skiing. Bit pricy I'd imagine?

Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga. Prices to suit all budgets.

Anywhere on the Costa Del Sol, less than 3 hrs flight, weather should be nice enough, cheap accommodation!

Prague is lovely, but I found it expensive, as is Vienna. I thought Lisbon was gorgeous but I went a long time ago, before the economic crash, so don't know what it's like now. I generally find Spain to be good value for money - one of my favourite cities to visit is Salamanca (you'd have to fly to Madrid and get a coach) and Valencia is also fantastic.

Krakow - flights with Ryanair 221, Hotel Kazimierz B&B for 3 nights 135 - lots of money left over for cheap beer, food etc..

That week will be the 2nd most expensive for ski holidays after Christmas/New Year. It's mid-term.

Brother in law was there recently and said it was very cheap for food and drink...he's travelled fairly extensively in Europe and claimed that Lisbon is as cheap a place as he has ever been.

Wouldn't mind taking herself there this year.

You can fly to Brussels-Charleroi for €40 return. From there you have loads of good choices; Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Amsterdam, Lille, Paris are all relatively close.

Sicily can be nice, and not too expensive, that time of year too.

    Seconded.

Cheap. Great nightlife. Stuff to see/do. Not far from beaches for a day trip.
    Look it up.

    Yes - Lisbon is great

Lovely city centre for wandering around, shops cafes etc

The castle is worth a trip for sure - overlooks the city

Food and drink (in particular) is very reasonable

Also recommend Krakow. An amazing city ( lived there for nearly 4 years )

Probably still be snow around then too which is even better.

Yeah I'd third Krakow! Lovely city and loads to do- the salt mines are amazing if you fancy a day trip. Obviously there's also Auswich to visit too which is heavy going but definitely worth a visit, I think.

Lovely shops and restaurants in the city, and the main square is lovely, especially at night. And I found the people to be really friendly. A great place to spend a weekend.

Loads of great options but I'd second Lisbon. Cheapest flights for your dates are €210 for 2 with Aer Lingus and a double room with en-suite bathroom in one of the cities highest rated hostels, located right in the centre of the city is €184 for 2 of you. Don't let the idea of a hostel put you off either. Myself and the OH went for a high rated one in Budapest last November and we basically got an entire apartment for ourselves!

Lisbon is also very very cheap and the weather should be decent enough in February. A day trip to Sintra is only €5 and a 40 minute train ride away too.
