There is on my tv. I think it's positioned perfectly but it is too bright.

    I'm (was) watching on saorview

I've my tv set to full pixel.

Part of the U is off the screen, I can shift the screen horizontally, but that will mess up every other channel, that is perfectly centered

Hmmm. It is a bit bright as well.

    More transparency would be welcomed

Perfectly positioned for me. a bit too bright and prominent but not as bad as RTE.
Saorview BTW and screen set to Auto justify.

that dog sums up that new channel nicely, a big U for useless, useless launch, useless programming, useless quality on saorview, a big fat useless.

Its the most gross DOG I have ever seen.

One Q why the big U??? ie what's the point. I hate to think what these people would do in they were in charge of the BBC!!

I reckon they will at some point try and re-design the brand logo and on-screen DOG within next 12-18 months but it will probably end up changing the name as it is too long-winded to incorporate into a completely different logo or on-screen DOG.

They clearly value the whole "U" concept but they can still use the "Part of U" slogan in promo/advertising but it is problematic inserting the country name Ireland if it has to then appear on UTV Ireland reporter's microphones and on-screen DOG too!

Radio Ireland became 100-102 TODAY fm
Capital Radio in Dublin became Rock104 and then later FM104
Channel 6 was bought by TV3 Group and later renamed 3e
Will UTV Ireland later opt for a name change of their ROI station?

They should have opted for a name without UTV in it. There are so many who expected the schedule to mirror UTV in the north and others who thought it was an ITV channel. As a result there are a lot of disappointed people who were expecting something that this channel could never provide.

I reckon some UTV insiders had already copped on to the negative aspects of this long-winded channel name & logo which in turn resulted in a lengthy On-Screen DOG. As the channel logo was already passed/signed off and because they were really up against the clock with the advance launch of their marketing/promo material they probably decided to run with it for the short term as they had to have a design out there for photo shoots over the last 6 months or so.

To me, it's more like a "working title" that will probably need to be re-visited by UTV in 12-18 months from now. It is no accident that the UTV Ireland channel on-screen DOG is kept firmly into the margin of the viewing screen (with the left of the letter "U" just ever so slightly off-screen) as it makes little or no sense otherwise. They are probably conscious that this is way too long and will irritate viewers. I love Ireland but having the whole country name appear in this way is just mad stuff. UTV Ireland will have to work away with it for now but I expect it will be high on their snag list in the medium term! :)

If that channel was anywhere near good ie professional it could do a sky atlantic and fade in and out the logo as there are so many ad breaks but don't hold your breath. It appears they don't know there is a HD facility on saorview either, I think that sums them up nicely. They are here for the ad revenue and the viewers can go shoo.

I will look at adjusting the picture aspect over the UTV Ireland on-screen DOG but then it may not be ideal for other channels!

As for crap in the schedules, I wonder if you saw Bette Midler - For One Night Only on TV3 recently, it is very disappointing that UTV Ireland would choose to show us the exact same show so soon after TV3 got in there first. TV3 and UTV Ireland may both be using similar programming sources but even if UTV Ireland had held off showing us their copy for broadcast until around next December it would have been received better from television audiences here in this jurisdiction.

I sure hope this does not become a familiar pattern of many other programmes on these two channels as the channel showing a specific programme a short time later is hardly about to gain any popularity or score well in terms of audience ratings one would have thought. A bit of clever programme scheduling on UTV Ireland is surely needed here if they seriously want to impress viewers especially in these early days!
