I assume you mean 1:50 scale! Many, many years ago I used to make plastic model kites usually in 1:72 scale so a 1:500 scale model would be seriously tiny indeed. An A380 might be viable at this scale but imagine a Sopwith Camel in 1:500 scale! You'd need an magnifying monocle and even then it would only be suitable as a monopoly playing token.

I did spot some nice looking Corgi diecast metal aircraft models in Hamleys just before Xmas - but by god where they pricy! Noticed a Vulcan (or Valient?) in 1:72 but selling somewhere past 150 euros.

I used to have around 75 Herpa 1:500 planes, I went all out and had the airport and runway as well. All mine were commercial jets/props.

1:144 scale is what civil aircraft used to be modelled in my day.

I'd love to get the VC 10 in BOAC blue and gold again. A real beauty.

Where do you buy them out of curiosity ? I find the prices in Ireland are crazy high.

I have a few Herpa 1:500 but, mainly I have 1:200 models. They're a LOT bigger, also diecast metal and are much more detailed. See the size difference between an American 773 in 500 & 200 scale.

From what is see only the smaller aircraft (commuter aircraft etc.) in 1:200 are diecast metal.

There's plenty of large jets in diecast in the 1:200 scale like the 777 above. Manufacturers like Gemini200, Inflight200, AV200, BlueBox etc all make them.

Hi I have 3 die cast model planes that I would be willing to sell if anyone is interested I collect model planes myself but I prefer the plastic clip together ones that come with stands (they are cheaper and easy to get on the airlines that I sometimes travel with ) I want to only have the plastic ones in my collection so that there is some type of uniformity

the planes are from Daron not sure of scale the airlines are Delta, American, United, any interest let me know and I can maybe put on my adverts page I am selling for 10 euro each plus postage & packaging

I have this one: Herpa 1:500 Aer Lingus Viscount. It's tiny - about 1in. long.

Just starting to get into this hobby again after years of doing it in my younger days.

Interestingly, a model at 1/50th scale is actually 125,000 times smaller than the full size.
