I was hoping to install my 840 evo but the instructions said I should use a sata to usb cable which I don't have so I was looking at how to do it without the cable and It seems like I could mess it up, should I order a cable or do it myself?

If it a 2.5" SSD going into a desktop PC? Is so, you just need a standard SATA cable directly onto your motherboard and a spare SATA power from your PSU.

Edit: If you are using their data migration software you will require the Sata>USB. You don't necessarily have to use it if you are doing a clean install of your OS, you could just back up all your files on an external HDD.

Samsungs bundled magician software will clone your existing boot drive for you. Open your case, plug in the new SSD without removing the old drive. Boot to windows and run toe magician software, once its done, shut down, remove the old boot drive and put the SSD in its place. Jobs a gud un.

Ok I know this is totally off topic, but why don't they make SSD's the same form factor as 3.5 HDD. Maybe they do i just never checked. Like you could make a really large Terrabyte drive. I know it would cost a lot of money but some people have the money and want the storage.

    Modern cases have SSD spaces.

PCsharkey the software wants you to migrate windows, rather than a fresh install.

I would suggest a fresh install.

    FYI

SSD is C windows and games that require an SSD are on it.
D E and F etc are normal HDs and games that dont require SSD go there.

From experience only Arma 3 and Bf4 COD AW do well on an SSD, no other game i have needs the SSD.

I noticed a decent bump in load times for World of warcraft, and as above BF4 took a nice bump also.

I've a Fractical(spellcheck) and it has some nice slots for my SSDs. One SSD mounts onto the opposite side where you could mount your motherboard, and then there is a rack for SSD's under HDD racks.

Flash chips aren't that big. If they made an SSD the same size as an average 3.5" HDD, it would be mostly empty space.

You know they already make terabyte SSDs, right? In 2.5" form factor, no less. In fact you can get 2TB PCI-E SSDs if you've got the money to blow.

If you are using windows 7 here is a great guide for ssd tweaks. It shows you how to recover some of the space on the drive that windows is using.
Its very handy if using smaller capacity drives.

Scroll down a bit for guide for after installation.

I know flash chips aren't that large. I was just saying they could make a really large Terrabyte drive in 3.5 form factor as in 10TB and bigger. I know it would cost a lot but as I said previously some people have the money and want the storage.

SSD's are just pushing the terabyte barrier in 2.5 inch at the moment but they're ~500 quid.

The barrier is NAND production, supplies are short because smartphones, tablets and SSD's are all competing for the same chips.

Also, an SSD controller has to keep track of all the pages in memory. Keeping track of 10tb and maintaining performance would be a big challenge.

sure open a standard 2.5" SSD and see how much of the inside is empty space :P (link)
