Front coil spring damaged

Hi all, just as I drove out of my driveway I heard a pop/bang. Looks like the front left coil has broken or come away from the shock.
Any idea of how much a replacement will cost? Car is a 2010 kia ceed estate.

Also, any idea is it safe to drive to local mechanic, about 2 miles away?

    Edit: Happy New Year :-(

    not safe to drive
no idea about cost but guess 300 to 400 including labour a little more if repaired in dealer

2010 car and a coil spring broken?

How long is a warranty on it?

Kia should be covered under 7 year warranty.

Have you got breakdown cover on your insurance? Get towed to your nearest Kia dealer.

Thanks, local kia dealer is actually only 5 mins drive from mine. Car was not bought from them though, 2nd hand 8 months ago so not sure how helpful they'll be

The warranty should still be valid. Doesn't matter if it was bought from them as they would charge it back to Kia Ireland.

In case there is any doubt it says here that it's transferable to the next owners -> http://www.kia.com/ie/specials/kia-7-year-warranty/?checkmobile=false

I'm assuming the car has less than 150000 kms.

Thanks, car has 108000km on it and due a service at 110/115 anyways so may as well take it to the kia dealer

Car is with the main dealer now but it'll be Monday before the service guy is back so have to wait and see if it can be covered by warranty.

Coil spring has cracked so will have to be replaced.

TBF, you could damage a coil going into a particularly bad pot hole. So the fact it is 2010 does not mean a lot. To the posters above expecting a warranty to cover every possible outcome you have to leave space for outside the norm situations.

Year doesnt come into play its had 4 years driving around the roads. one or two nice placed potholes can sink any number of suspension components.

Yeah I agree, damage could've happened at any time with the spring just cracking yesterday. would be good if it was covered but sure regardless it'll have to be fixedfixed. Just hope its not too expensive. Funds are tight at this time of year

Well, we'll see if KIA will cough up for that one, arguments could be made for and against.

I'd believe the best outcome on this is a goodwill gesture from kia. Don't go in all guns blazing, the softly softly approach may yield better results. Good luck op

Looking at their warranty exclusions (on the UK site) I don't see that they have much wiggle room. They exclude wheel alignment after 1000km, but they don't exclude suspension components per se. They could conceivably say it's accidental damage, but from what I've heard from a Kia parts manager they are pretty good about honouring their warranty.

OP - does the car have a Kia service history? That may stand to you if goodwill is required.

I didn't even mention warranty myself and went in with the pretence that I didn't know what was wrong, just had a knocking noise from d front. Just have to call back Monday morning and see what the story is

I'd be surprised if Kia don't cover it.

Any word on this OP? Curious as to how Kia's warranty lives up to the hype.

Exact same thing is just after happening to me. 2010 Kia Ceed, spring on passenger side went. I don't remember hitting any potholes, etc.

It's in the garage now, but they have to wait on the part to come in, so no car for me for the weekend :(

Never had a spring go in 30+ years of motoring until 2 weeks ago, then N/S spring broke on the Sunday night, repaired and working by Tuesday. O/S spring failed on the Thursday! Mechanic reckoned he'd never heard the like

If it was a pothole that caused suspension damage to the car you should be able to claim off the council, the same way you can claim if you blow a tyre out hitting a pothole.

Can be difficult to prove, on both occaisions I'd driven home and parked with no problem, springs gave way overnight and were obviously gone when trying to drive as springs were digging into the tyres

Should have replaced both at the same time anyway

You can only do that if you can prove the pothole has been badly repaired.

Should have, could have, eventually did but normally if it ain't broke leave it alone!

I don't remember hitting a pothole to be honest.

The service manager at the garage seemed quite surprised it had broken when I was talking to him earlier. Says it's very rare.

Odd that both mine and the OP have 2010 Kias....
