Tractor back end oil?

For the last few years I've been using morris oil in the back end and gearbox of a ford 5000. This year the hydraulic filter got blocked, mostly very fine metal filings which I think came from the brake discs. Just wondering have I used the wrong spec oil, STOU 15-30 oil? Are there better oils out there?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Magnol, STOU 15-30, I presume? I am using the same oil here in everything for the last 4 or 5 years , without any problems. I suppose part of the problem is that my 5600 is just 39 years old, never had the brakes touched, and your 5000 is a Pre-Force( seen apic of it ploughing on here), making it 47 or 8 years old.A lot of modern tractor owners would like to not have your problem till now. I presume you are getting the oil from the distributor, as he would be less than 10 miles from you,. I haven't heard of any problems with Morris Oil and I know of several using it.

Do you know if the tractor has wet or dry brakes.?
The oil type should be fine for the tractor. If the filter is blocked from filings and they came from wet brakes , it simply means the brakes probably are worn out and need to be changed.

    Oil immersed wet brakes.

Morris Lubricants have a fantastic website. Sorry I can't do links . You select commercial , agricultural, auto , marine etc etc.first. Then make and model of whatever you have. According to that we should be using Liquimatic in the back end , and Ring-Free in the engines of those old girls, Blue 5000. Liquimatic is supposed to have special additives to help with disc brake 'squawk'. But it seems you may investigate further if you have filings, it will wreck hyd pump next if you don't.

I had the seperate 'anti-squawk additive in as well, think it was 2 litres. Going to drain it and change oil now anyway.
