The cure.

1st off I have to say this is not about looking for or giving out medical advice, just about opinions and experiences.

My ankle has been injured for 4 or 5 months now (ligament damage according to the physio) and despite long layoffs and seeing the Physio I'm actually in worse shape now than at any time since it was initially injured.

My wife's Granny has the cure of the sprain and I was visiting today so she had a look at it. Now I've never known whether to believe in that kind of thing or not but the woman has been looking at sprains for 70-80 years so she's bound to have an idea what she's on about.

She said the ankle is swollen a little and that she found a lump in it, the physio mentioned swelling but didn't notice much else.

I suppose I'm asking if anyone else has gotten the cure for any injuries along with getting medical advice or do people think it's a load of crap?

I got it done today, I'll be seeing a doctor again in about a week and possibly a physio too. I'll not expect miracles but it certainly won't do any harm.

    "The cure" = superstition.

    (You asked). :)

You say you got this cure - what exactly did it consist of?

I've always thought it was like the placebo effect, which should mean it won't work on me. I'll keep my fingers crossed though.

It was pretty much an examination of the ankle and a very very light massage, there was a bit more to it but as a mark of respect to the woman I'll not go in to any more detail.

We chatted about the physio and that if this doesn't work I might get it scanned.

Fingers crossed it works so! Who knows she might get a boards discount going for us! :D

You mean the cure, like the religious thing? I'm careful to not offend anyone but I wouldn't be holding my breath if I was you. If you've been off long term with an injury that's not improving despite repeat visits to the physio then you either haven't been doing the work he is prescribing you or you need to see a new physio.

I'd be of the same thinking as you pconn but, I've a mate had awful trouble with his back and he went to see a bone setter, he's not 100% but he is a lot better.
It was some where in co Tipp, he was queuing up beside people with greyhounds and calves!

I've been doing the exercises but I'm in worse shape than I was before I saw the physio. I'll see the doc in a week or so and take it from there.

It's very much a Cavan thing "the cure" and I would urge extreme caution Ronan. I know it's easy to get to the stage that you are willing to try anything when an injury is not healing but this is not the way. I speak from experience as my folks took me for the cure when I was a kid and I have the dodgy/weak ankle still over 30 years later as evidence of it.

Would suggest you try a specialist running physio if you are not happy with the progress being made under your current physio.

<mod>If we don't allow medical advice on boards then I cannot see how mumbo-jumbo like that could possibly be okay</mod>
