Toyota Auris 4th-3rd shift

We have an 07 Auris Van, with about 90k km on it. Recently it has gotten difficult, if not impossible to shift down from 4th to 3rd. Works grand going up the gears, and can go from 4-2 ok. No grinding or crunching, it just won't go. Any ideas before it goes into a garage and a big bill appears? Thanks
