Capital Gains or Exit Tax for UCITS ETFs??

Does anyone know if is it true that ETFs are liable for 41% exit tax on disposal and that the first €1270 of any gains ARE NOT exempt as they are for Capital Gains Tax?

Also does that mean that losses in ETFs are not offsetable? I tried to find a clear answer on revenue documentation but couldn't find any.

If so it makes ETFs a lot less attractive than direct ownership of shares!
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi,

I am searching for the same answers. As far as I'm concerned ETF's are securities and are traded like stocks rather than funds.

I wonder if you could just file them as you would with stocks (dividend's and CGT on the Revenue form 11) rather than putting them down as funds?

I agree it would make them much less attractive if the 41% tax is the case. In the US they are actually classed as tax efficient...
