Not receiving UK channels on saorview any more?

I have to premise this with a disclaimer; I know little to nothing about technology!!

Up until today I had a 12 year old TV with a little HD saorview box that received all the Irish channels as well as a few of the UK channels (BBC, UTV etc)

Today I bought and set up a new TV and tuned it in to find that only Irish channels are coming up. Any idea how to get the UK channels back on my new TV?

You need to explain where you are and what you have as aerials etc. There are no UK channels on Saorview.

    In Carlow county, not sure what aerial I have, will check tomorrow. I definitely received UTV and BBC up until this morning on this box;

That looks like a Triax TSC114 Combi box which has both terrestrial and satellite tuners in it.
You wont be receiving Freeview on that in County Carlow but were probably receiving UTV and BBC through the satellite feed on it.

You need a TV with both a saorview and satellite tuner to get both the Irish and British stations in Carlow

When I first tuned in the TV it gave me two options, "Aerial" and "Satellite". I chose Aerial. If I chose Satellite would it work?

Thanks for all the help! :)

    Interested in this also.

The Model of TV would be useful.
Also unless it has a satellite IF input connected to a cable going to a dish it won't work.

I find for UK TV that non-Freesat tuners are are pain and that TVs with Sat Tuners are overpriced. None are truly Saorview + Saorsat.

So we have a Sagem HD Freesat box via HDMI to a Saorview TV for UK TV.
EPG and Interactive works and never needs tuned.

For non UK & UK FTA Satellite we have generic Sat boxes, these are mostly used for UK and Continental Radio, a little gadget for MP3 player to Car Radio lets them play on any FM Radios (€2 to €6). Latest is an HD Strong for €15. Usually in bedroom on Continental Radio, but we can put it on main TV for FTA German Eurosport for Tennis. Or whatever.

The Triax box had 2 feeds, a push in feed from the aerial and a screw on conector for the satellite feed. If the TV has a satellite tuner it will also have a screw on connector located close to the aerial feed, connect the satellite cable there and do a satellite tune/scan.

Connect the two cables that went to the STB to the TV. Then do an auto tune.

To get Freesat, the TV must use Country=UK. This will put the Saorview channels in the 800s. Generally, they can be located as desired. The Saorview signal contains 38 blank channels that tend to mess up non Saorview setups even on Saorview approved TVs.

    Good luck with it.

My Dad lives in Mullingar and can get saorview and lots of freeview channels off a Walker saorview (only) box. He has a 30 year aerial on a telegraph pole that is close to falling off.

I live 2 miles away in town with the same type of aerial on my chimney but can't get the freeview channels.

I had set up the first original Triax saorview box and got all the Irish channels. Tried the newer Triax box with the twin tuner in the same room and the reception was rubbish.

So I am wondering if the OP did manage to get a few freeview channels off an aerial but changing TV messed it up? (Need to know if the OP has a satellite dish installed.)

Certainly won't be receiving any Freeview in Carlow . As already stated , that's a triax TSC 114 combi . So UK channels via dish .

I don't know a huge amount in this area - as you probably guessed!

I would say if I posted a question about getting freeview in Mullingar I would have been told no way. So I just thought if Mullingar why not Carlow?

I have used the same combo box (Triax TSC114) as the OP and I had it connected to the aerial only.

Plus the OP hasn't said yet whether he/she has a dish.

Maybe on high enough ground, say somewhere like Mt. Leinster. :)

You'd have to be somewhere up on that spine of mountains that's in between Wales & most of Carlow.
