have isolation switches on the f140, 110-90 and terex 860 but none on the ford 5000. Want to put one on it and was wondering is it easy to do myself? it was a mechanic installed them on the two fiats and it came as standard on the digger but if it was an easy job I would try it myself on the 5000. Have a one bought and all just to fit.
where have people attached them onto that turns out a neat job?

all depends of where the battery is. normally disconnect the earth lead from there it is connected to the body, connect it to the switch and add in a new lead from the switch to the body.
Make a bracket to hold the switch.
Most important is try to mount it where it wont get too wet, the switches dont like water.
I have seen them mounted at the front under the bonnnets on a new hollands besdie the battery , lift the bonnet to turn on.
Under the cab/behind the step on a crystal. There is a hole under the clutch on the crystal for another one.
Can be mounted in the dash of the older masseys

Always isolate your batteries off the earth cos once the earth is off as the battery is dead when the earth is disconnected.
Always when fitting a battery connect the positive first and the earth as it cant earth out if the spanner slips and verse versa.

If the switch fails and its on the negative side it makes little difference as all it's doing is grounding the connection again.

If it's on the positive and it fails it will then be shorting the positive straight into the panels/ wherever it's mounted which could cause fires etc
