hi. Im 17. i plan on applying to the aer lingus cadetship to be a pilot as i realise this is the best opportunity to become a pilot in Ireland.

How can i do now to improve my chances of my being successful in my application?

All of the details you require regarding Aer Lingus cadetships have been covered in depth numerous times before and a quick forum search will yield plenty of results.

Out of curiousity what has swayed your mind from the Air Corps? I appreciate it is difficult to be accepted into either but I wouldn't write off either at your age.

I have read all the 2014 aer lingus cadet programme thread and couldn't see anything about my question.

I will apply for the air corps but I am more interested in commercial flying really.

The first and most important piece of advice I will give you is to go through a class 1 medical examination.

Unless you can pass the medical, which will likely be the final hurdle of any competition you apply for then you may end up with a lot of wasted time and money.

A lot of pilots undergo the examination in the Mater private and it will cost around €650. There are other alternatives listed on the IAA website but generally they are around this price.

You can practice psychometic testing and interview techniques until the cows come home, but if you cannot pass the medical you will find it extremely difficult to enter the profession, whether it be commercial or military.

There is some good stuff in the 2014 thread, however no-one can give you a magic pill to make the grade. Look for posts from stovepipe (among others)

The advice about is good too.
