On the contrary,I've found scenting conditions to be very favourable all season, making retrieves exceptionally easy for my dogs, maybe there is a nose issue in this case.

Yeah minus five here the last few days and I noticed the dog taking a lot of air scent instead of following birds in on foot scent. Definitely easier tracked in the cover.

ya dropped a runner and dog was very iffy until she hit cover wasnt a problem in there and eventually air scented him in a corner

Scent is very good and has been for last few weeks. One of my dog's has a pretty average nose and when he is taking snipe conditions are good. Hasn't missed one in two weeks

Not bad here tbh,the dog wont retrieve but will lead you right to it ,things getting quieter around here but if there's anything around he'll find it ,to be fair his nose is good, are we talking springers or all breeds in general just to clarify op?

found it pretty bad alright regards shot woodcock dogs taking a bit long to pick birds then usual.some ground i shoot as practically moving under me so that woudnt help.but then again iv only average dogs.

Any particular reason that you choose the springer? I was actually thinking of getting one myself next year after watching some of the posts in the vid forum here.

Allan would you have a preference over the kind of breed you shoot over cause you have both pointer and springer .....not wanting to cause upset here

im addicted to them , they suit me and where i hunt lots of rabbits in briars , and i tend to hunt heavy ditches all the time for pheasants and woodcock so they get in and just love watching them work ,, even if scent is poor and wind direction is wrong they will get in and turn a place upside down for game

There was a couple of mornings over the last 2wks that I thought scent was poor, like anyone would my first reaction was to blame the dog but they all couldn't be wrong. However, scent did seem to improve in the late afternoon of most days we were out.

I was talking to a guy the other evening who keeps a pack of hounds and he said he finds scent exceptionally bad this year and blames it on the mild weather.

Very very mild , i honestly cant remember a winter being this mild , only two really hard frosts, i can remember wetter ones but not this mild.
