This has to be seen to believed. Fox News have an official on the air and are suggesting the metric system versus the imperial system might have a part to play in air safety. And the spokesperson goes on to suggest US airlines don't use autopilot.

    A lot of tabloid rabble.

Not surprised at the market they are aiming story at.

have you seen this fox news picture of the Air Asia A320 incident? they use an A380, 777 & 787. Yet no A320 to be seen.

Wonderful. Got to love the muppetry of Fox news....

metric is a lot more logical yet this is obviously the problem here.

I love this ****e that Fox trot out, and I wonder how long ago Scott lost his job with the FAA?

A lot of half truths and speculatio.
Mind you the FAA guy at least din't blame the metric system like Miss Bimbo seemed to be implying.

The "autopilot" thing is a rehash of the Boeing/Airbus debate about the flight envelope protection on an Airbus that will stop the pilot doing stupid things. Boeing don't use it and there is an argument that can be made for and against by people far more learned than me.

The Asian thing about juniors failing to challenge the captain has also some evidence for it, but it's a lot less prevalent than it was years ago.

FOX News. The same crowd who didn't know Ireland was a country? The ones who are the apitomy of "God bless Murica?". The American branch of Sky. I always get a good laugh out of them ;) .

While I agree slightly, I really do believe FOX are in a league of their own. Bill O'Reilly is all you need to see to know why America is so disillusioned internationally.

Scary thing is, it was NBC, the supposedly higher quality station that had those twits asking what are currency was and if we were part of Britain still!

I'm talking about management, that FOX is a sister company of the channel which called VS43 (That 747 in Gatwick) a 777.

Fox will blame the fact that it's Unamerican : metric system and some Europlane which was assembled in their favourite country : France. They'll surmise that they probably left cheese in the engine.

The main thing they'll conclude is that President Obama didn't personally stop if from happening thus he needs to be replaced.

It's a ridiculous channel and should only be watched for comedy value.

Top news agency? if anyone genuinely considers Fox news anything close to a half decent news agency they need their head tested.

I have a dream that one day fox news will be no more and that the american people will learn what real news is and hear about real news stories and see real people presenting them. i have a dream that one day it will happen.

Seriously how can you blame the difference in the way your thought vs the american way. and do those images actually measure to an a320?

OK, first off, fox news is a joke. So are pretty much all 24 hr news networks, with exception of BBC and al Jazeera.
Having said that, there have been accidents caused before by using different units of measurement (the famous Gimli Glider being one).
Over reliance on autopilot was cited as a factor in the loss of AF447.
It has been suggested in a number of incidents that the culture of deference to ones elders which is prevalent in many Asian countries has contributed to air accidents also, see asiana 214.
Now don't get me wrong I find media coverage of most aviation topics (or anything technical really, such as recent hysteria over 'hackers') to be laughable and very ill informed, doing more harm than good usually I would say. However they can be sometimes vaguely sort of a little bit hinting at maybe touching on something relevant! ;-)
