    hi,

was visiting brother in laws place during holidays, he uses mineral buckets from shamrock enterprises.

they are in a larger bucket, but price/kg is alot more than what you would pay at standard co-op/ merchant.

does their quality justify extra price? also, he uses a beef lick that seemingly has protein added. its softer than standard mineral bucket and they seem to love it.

at 50 euro a pop, i think i would prefer 7 bags of weanling crunch - or maybe im wrong..

anybody else have info/results on this stuff..

    thanks.

pre calvers need iodine most importantly and cider vinegar should do the in their water supply is very good a few Weeks before calving!
I have seen those protein mineral buckets and pricy! Also when I enquired about getting one I was told minimum order was a few hundred euro worth! Forget exactly now again ! I stayed with the bag of nuts

Who told you that. Any merchant will sell you a single bucket or bag no problem

it was their agent I met at the Newcastle west agricultural show I was interested in his idea of giving a big bucket lick instead of nuts
No labour and he said that they would be coming and going from the protein bucket all day between grazing! Sounded really good to me until he mentioned supplementing nuts as a bonus! That's when I taught what's the point of that and strange he would mention it atal ! But I was interested enough to look to buy one tub for 50 euro and he informed me that there was a minimum order of 4 tubs as they don't stock in coops or veterinary stores ! I took his card and they were based half way up the country I forget where and forgot all about them again until reading the post
That was 2 years ago mind

Stick with powdered or water trough versions.
Much more successful at delivering the minerals to ALL cows.

Licks are a handy choice for the exception group animals that are not with the main herd that are being treated differently for whatever reason.

Consider mineral bolus for hiefers and any stock u suspect would be bullied for the feed fence or water troughs

    Just my 2 cents
