Gaps in parquet floor

    Hi all,
We had a parquet floor fitted this year in a new-build house. It was installed directly on to the concrete floor about one year after it was poured and glued in place. There's underfloor heating in the concrete. In the last few weeks in particular we're noticing more and more gaps appearing between the blocks and it seems to be getting worse. The room is a steady temperature nearly all the time so I didn't think they would contract in the cold weather but could this be what's causing this and they'll expand again in the spring? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Were they fitted poorly?
    thanks

It's as much about moisture as temperature. I'd suspect that the underfloor heating is drying the timber out causing the shrinkage you can see. Not sure what could be done about it now, I'm afraid, unless you wanted to try to use a humidifier to even out the moisture content in the air - but I can't see any guarantee that would work or help.

Same thing happened in a build we done. They got the floor fitted after we finished. After a year the got us back in saying it's our fault. But the floor wasnt suited for underfloor heating.

    Hi kelso81.
The gaps are occuring because the moisture content of the boards is reduced. The best way now is to put moisture back into the air. Buy a humidifier, this will take time to put moisture back into boards. Check with the supplier of machine on how exactly to use it. Too much moisture and you will swell, too little you will get no change in floor.

You could try putting a few bowls of water around the area, but this will also take time to put moisture back into the air
