Budget Tablet Help

Hey all, I'm in the market for a low price tablet. Having snooped about the place, I've spotted the Asus Memo Pad 7, the Nexus 7 (2012 version) or the Kindle Fire HDX, all for largely the same price (I have amazon vouchers if shopping there).

Spec wise the Kindle is way ahead, but I'm worried about the OS. I'd happily root and throw a custom ROM on it, it there's a decent/stable ROM out there.

My main use will be for reading, a little bit of Netflix and Web browsing. Maybe the odd game, but not much.

What do people reckon? Am I being silly in taking the kindle when it's not really a proper android install. Or am I being silly in not taking it for all the specs it has for a low price?

    Help?

The Kindle very likely has a Cyanogenmod available for it, if so, you're set. They're fragile from what I've heard though, and a custom ROM will void your warranty, so there is a significant risk

The 2012 Nexus 7 is an awful yoke, I bought one when it came out, most frustratingly laggy android device I ever owned. I wouldn't recommend one at any price. The Memo Pad is a great yoke at the price, but the Kindle with Cyanogen on it is the winner here.

Triple check the kindle's latest firmware is suitable to root and install cyanogen. When I looked into it over the summer there was no way to install on the latest kindle OS (which is what they ship with).
