I'm doing some renovation around the house and I've come across this very old looking wires along the bottom of the walls at parts of the house, connecting to a small lead (as in metal) nugget in the base of the wall.

Does anyone know what these are?
Some kind of an old earthing system, or something to do with the concrete? Can I safely remove them?

Can you post a close up of the cable and the box it connects to?

It's to prevent damp rising. Don't remove it. It may still be in use.

    Correct.
It's a continous cable off a transformer putting current into the wall to stop riseing dampness.

Check transformer is still there and working.
