Anyone know someone in the south east who knows Mini's fairly well and would be able to look at carb, fuel/air etc?

Most garages I spoke to are talking about new cat, throttle body clean, dizzy timing etc to get it through the NCT but I'd like to get the thing setup right first as it may be just too rich. Not going near it myself though!

Seeing as yours is a carbed mini then I don't think Throttle bodies are a problem....
Same goes for the Cat (even if you happen to have a '94 Mini 35 with carb and cat, it would be exempt from the Lambda Test, etc as it doesn't have one).
TBH any 'older' Mechanic should be able to have a look at this for you. Ask a few local Motor Factors to suggest someone, they would know who's who in your area.

Thanks for that. Heard about another man in the meantime.
Mechanic told me about a man near Enniscorthy called Paddy O' Connell who specializes in old stuff and is involved in the rally scene. The car spent an hour with him and is running a lot smoother now and hopefully leaner. NCT middle of next week so hopefully should be sorted.

Hickey Race Engineering, Paul Hickey. As far as I can remember he's out in Newcastle!

He is/was 'Merlin' on the irishminis.ie forum.
Think he changed career a few years ago.

Yep thats him. He'll still take on mini related work if he's not slammed and is one of the best in the country. And no I'm not him :D (he built my own mini)
