odd problem

I have a HP 4525 laptop. It does not boot with black screen and gives led 5 flashes which is motherboard or don't know problem. The odd thing is that if I plug in a new usb device it starts ok, I then ran all bios diagnostics which were all fine and it then would not restart and after power off it went back to the black…

The same usb device especially doesn't seem to work again I am running out of different devices.

Any ideas to keep things operational over the holiday season welcome.
