UTV Ireland channel previews?

Not really any thing serious, more of a quick thread to talk about... but is it just me or does anyone else think the visual shots they did of Ireland were quite beautiful on the UTV channel? Especially the Wicklow one?

I have watched tourism advertisements for our country, and none would really have the same effect on me as the UTV previews have.

Well for me it's still always there, if I keep the channel on all day, it doesn't come or go.

I dunno, maybe wait till the channel officially launches, things might change then.

What exactly will be the content on UTV Ireland? Will it be pretty much the same as UTV bar the odd exception - local news, sport, etc?

That seems to be it. Not much value to many of us.

    Reception is good and consistant.

As for the shots of Ireland in the previews - just standard countryside shots and nothing extraordinary.

Will it be showing what's on the regular UTV?
With Sky so cant record UTV

Show any football? Champions League, Premiership etc.

2 hours average of Irish programming every day mostly current affairs. The rest are British imports. The usual soaps etc.

Don't know why the BIC granted them a license on such meagre home rations. Nice images on the promos but this channel will do little or nothing for the broadcasting industry here.

I hope they do a lot more home produced programming eventually but I just don't see it happening.

You will now as it's an "official" skyIreland channel, rather than a manually tuned in one not on the subscription package.

As in ROI or (the island of) Ireland?

That's pretty much what I was hoping it would be. As UTV is not on the Sky planner I completely forget about it and end up missing some good programmes. It's also a pain not being able to record anything on UTV.

Might be only me but I think that irish tv has gone fair crap over the past few years and the addidtion of utv Ireland is only going to make them worse.

It's the same everywhere, quality or quantity, one or two good channels that will have large audiences or a dozen of mediocre (or imported) channels with smaller audiences or hundreds of crap ones with meagre audiences.
For the population of (the island) of Ireland to have a good TV service, you only need two or three home grown channels. The sponsorship/license/govt levy won't support any more. The alternative is channels with a lot of cheap imported material & repeats.

They just take ITVs coverage of that.

UTV Sport is pathetic, by and large. Not even sure they have a local sports department any more.

Unless I am mistaken UTV's coverage in NI usually deviates very little from ITV coverage. Local news and the odd local programme, the rest of it is exactly the same as ITV.

They will have things that appear at the bottom of the screen during programmes. Usually it's to promote upcoming programmes rather than advertising products.

The vast majority of Tv watched in ireland is Irish channels. Viewing figures do not support your personal views on Irish TV :p

They have corporate sponsored sitcoms, shows and sports use this space to advertise upcoming corporate sponsored sitcoms, shows and sports. It's another form of advertising no matter how it's dressed up.

    Gone :(

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Anyone know what media baron owns UTV Ireland or who are the other major shareholders? If they're going to be reporting news & current affairs it'd be good to know what bias they're coming from

UTV Ireland were looking for someone to introduce the soaps like Julian Simmons up in the north.

Heres a video of him in action for anyone thats unfamiliar with UTV.

9.30 to 10.30 on Sunday morning on UTV you had Jeremy Kyle USA. On TV3 you had Back To School.
Who in their right mind would watch Jeremy Kyle on a Sunday morning at that hour?
Back To School was a nice show. The trials and tribulations of primary school in Ireland 40+ yrs ago. Shown at the wrong time in my opinion. Being TV3 it'll be shown again for sure.
They show no News on a Sunday.
Looking at th programme guide for the week ahead there isn't a damn thing worth watching. Have seen most before. One word- pathetic.
