No signal to saorview box from ariel

I recently moved into a new house and there is a UPC box on the wall. However I only want the 'free' RTE channels but our saorview box tells us there is no signal.
We have an aerial on the roof and it seems to be connected to the right places in the attic.
Is the UPC box blocking our 'free' signal and how do we bypass this if so?

    Thanks in advance

Are you in an actual cabled area, maybe the aerial on the roof is one of UPC's MMDS aerials?

Can you post a photo of it?

Yeah, the first 2 photos are of an MMDS ('wireless cable') aerial, no use for Saorview.

The last pic. is of a satellite dish, of the type typically used for Sky installations. (I note whoever installed it didn't bother to pull the cover down on the LNB cable connections.)

Cheers for the info. So how do you recommend we proceed?
Buy a indoor digital aerial from amazon or get a proper outdoor aerial.

An outdoor aerial would be the norm. You will get a good idea of what you need from here http://www.freetv.ie/tv-and-radio-aerials/uhf-aerials.html

What will work depends on what the Saorview signal is like at your location. The best kind of indoor aerial will be one that looks like an 'outdoor' one i.e. directional type.

If it's your own house & you don't wish to avail of the UPC service, you should contact them & arrange for them to remove their equipment, as unlike with Sky, this never becomes the property of the customer.

And speaking of Sky, assuming that dish in your photo is correctly aligned on the relevant satellite position, & the LNB & cables still in working condition, you'll be able to use it to receive free-to-air UK channels. (You'll need a satellite receiver, of course.)
