Skips past it

On my Sony TV I have Saorview channels RTE1, RTE2, TV3, etc. stored on channel numbers 501 to 508, with UTV Ireland stored on channel number 509. When I use the channel up/down button on the remote to navigate through the channels it skips past 509 to the next stored channel; I have to tune UTV Ireland by pressing the digits 5, 0, 9 on the remote. Why should this be?
The TV is 5 years old, so not Saorview approved.

    do a factory reset

    Select Ireland in the setup.
This will put the channels at 1, 2, 3, etc

I assume you've the Freeview channels first followed by the Saorview channels, have you done a retune of the Saorview channels since the UTVI channel was switched on? Normally the 5yr old Sony will have no problems viewing UTVI, mine is going on 7yrs old.

Probably not. Saorview have changed their signal, and you may get channel 1 blocked, and RTE1 on chn 1, etc, probably in random order. There are 38 blank channels that will appear in the list but have no signal. Also, there are 'test' channels showing test cards that will appear as well. This changed a month or so ago and appears to be a deliberate strategy to make non-Saorview sets unworkable - I do not know why.

    I have a sony z4500

    Its not saorview approved.

But if I set it to Ireland, it'll find all the channels, put them in order and skip only the ones that need to be skipped.

And it'll put the radio stations starting at 200

OP here has Freeview reception too. If he uses Ireland as country setting, he'll have all the UK channels in the 800s or wherever.

The sony z4500. Will allow you to rearrange channels after u have them stored.

Anyway, has the op done a rescan lately ?

Edit.. just checked my emails. . My tv was bought in jan 2009

So that makes it 7 yrs old

I know, but if you want them all out of the 800s, it's a lot more rearranging than you'd need to do for the few Saorview channels.

I have an LG **LD490 which has been screwed recently by the changes in the Saorview signal. After a retune, LCN 1 has been grabbed by a data channel and cannot be moved. There are nearly 40 blank channels that needlessly there and need to be deleted, and the rest of the channels are all over the place.

Before the retune, RTE1 was at 1, RTE2 was at 2, etc. (after a resort). Now RTE1 is at 2, etc. and there is nothing I can do about it.

I presume, if I carted the TV to a place where I can receive Freeview, I can then tune Saorview channels and then move everything about and delete the Freeview ones. Mmmmm.

Would it be OK to just scan channel 44? I don't want to mess everything else up by doing a full scan or a factory reset.
Thanks for all the replies by the way.

Shouldn't do your Freeview lineup any harm, but it will bring in all the Saorview 'test' services, if they're still there.

I'd do a full scan with UK as the country and simply move the Saorview channels as required from the 800s, I assume they'll be stored there.

Have a look in the individual channel menu setting. There may be a skip option set to 'on' for that particular channel.

Is there a country option in the tuning menu? If 'Ireland' doesn't exist, try selecting 'Italy'. Don't worry, it won't change your menu language to Italian!

There is no country option. It is a UK only set, although it was purchased in Ireland from Power City. It was purchased before Saorview approval.

The only option is to choose whether to have LCN numbers set or not. Set gives numbers in the 800s and non-movable and random. Otherwise, station 1 is taken by a data stream and cannot be moved. This has only happened recently.

The Saorview signal is deliberately screwed up for non-Saorview sets - some more than others. I looked at a cousins Philips set that was unusable even though it used to work. The set had a slow processor, and I just could not cycle through the stations with 'No Signal' without losing the will to live. It was simpler to attach one of my non-Saorview STB, which worked a treat.

To get back to selecting a country you will have to reset the tv.
    It will probably be.

Menu - settings - setup - all reset

    Strange.

I bought my sony set from the uk, and it has the option for various countries and languages, but you only see these options on initial setup
(or if you do "all reset")

I wasn't aware of uk only models.
What is the model no of the tv
    Menu- settings - product info

    Mine is a kdl-46z4500

Thanks for all the replies. Setting the country selection to Ireland and then re-scanning did the trick. Thanks again.
