satellite signal blocked by neighbours tree, how can I get free to air?

I was wondering if anyone can help. I ordered sky but the installer could not get a signal (huge huge evergreen trees in direct line of signal). I got UPC and now I want to get free view /free to air /anything in the kitchen & bedroom. Is it possible to get these channel by aerial only as I have very little hope of ever getting a signal from satellite.

ETA: I have TV aerial pts in every room some in the most ridiculous positions imaginable) so I have the 8/10 analogue channels but would like to add if possible

Can you not put the dish higher to miss the trees?

I wish! The sky guy said I had zero hope! They are Forrest size! And there's tonnes of them! Zero chance of the neighbour accommodating us either.

They must be very close to your house or very, very tall so

Directly next door is a huge private estate type home.. Surrounded by huge evergreens. Mine is the only house positioned in line with the sky signal. So can I get any FTA channels via aerial

Do those trees block the sunlight at any time of the year? And were they that height when you moved in?

I just moved in on Monday, ya they were there when I viewed the house but I didn't understand satellite if I'm honest & just thought it would point "up". I feel like an ape. I can get UPC but I really would like the FTA in other rooms. I know the neighbour is not obliged to do anything.

I'll lose light in the yard alright, I love the house but it was neglected so I have a lot of cosmetic work to do. I just can't afford mutliroom & I work days & nights so I like to have the tv on during the day in my room it helps me nod off.

Saorview is free-to-air with an aerial, but as you may already know or, will see from the link, is limited to Irish channels only. (UTV Ireland can be added to the list from the start of next year.)

You'll only get UK channels if you're in range of a UK terrestrial transmitter, & that will depend on where you are.

Also, the UHF frequencies used for terrestrial TV transmission can be badly affected by trees, so you could have problems there too, depending on where your aerial needs to point.

I know this could be expensive, but is your garden big enough to accommodate a high antenna mast as far back from the trees as possible, or off the roof of the house or out building, to get some clearance.
Most sky installers just want to stick the dish on the wall and don't think of anywhere beyond that.

I moved into a house with lots of aerial sockets in various rooms, but nothing behind the sockets, no cables!

A dish doesn't necessarily have to be placed up high to get a signal.
It can be easily placed on a fence once the way is clear to pick up the signal.

When I first moved into my home ten years ago I had the sky man around who told me the only way to get a signal was to bolt a long/high pole to the house ( at the back ) bringing my dish up higher on the roof to catch the signal. I didn't fancy that and asked could it be put on the fence down at the back of the garden to which he said no way.

I sent him on, eventually bought my own second hand pro sat finder and mounted my dishes on my fence ( just needs more cable obviously ). Very handy for maintenance too. All free to air too may I add.

Is there any fence or wall at any other side of your house where it would pick up a signal maybe ?

With UPC if you can get the Horizon box then you have most FTA channels on the Horizon Go App, get an andriod stick and you can watch the channels on any TV you plug the box into.

I'm in the same position - with satellite blocked by huge trees in neighbours garden. I also installed my own FTA dish down the garden - nicely concealed behind a shrub and on a fence post. It lines up with a gap in the trees. Works perfectly even in all the strong winds of the last week. The Sky installers don't like anything unusual because it takes them too long. The neighbours "Professionally" installed Sky dish is on a high pole at the back of their house and always pixellates in strong winds.

Alternatively, if you can get eircom eFibre, their eVision multiroom is only €5 per room (vs €11 per room from UPC), and if you bundle in your mobiles with eMobile you will likely save a fortune vs UPC, who don't have mobile. With eVision, the multiroom TV is over home-plug Ethernet, so it is very easy to move boxes between rooms.
