You need long life 04 or LL-04

    LL-01 is for older BMWs

I usually get my oil for bmw from micksgarage
my spec is LL-04 cost about 38 euro for 5 liters
I need 6.5 liters for oil change in 525i not sure what you need think it be the same.

LL-01 is cheaper but as it's not the right oil it makes no difference what price it's sold at.

You could probably get away with it by changing oil more often but what's the point taking a chance and risk CAT and premature engine wear to save a couple of euro when the correct oil will last longer and not damage the cat

I've an 08 skoda Octavia petrol. The site is telling me 05w30 & 05w40.

    Which is right.?
    Thanks

    That is correct.

With modern cars the oil grade is really a secondary detail. The bit you need to pay attention to is the manufacturer's spec for your particular car. In your case this is BMW LL-04 as the other posters have already mentioned.

BMW LL-04 oil can come in 0W30, 5W30 or 5W40 grades. But as you are finding out not all oils in those grades meet the spec. Which grade you use doesn't really matter once it says BMW LL-04 on the can. If it doesn't state that on the can don't use it.

I would give you the same advice as the OP. Pay attention to the spec not the grade. The spec you are looking for is VW 504.00. This will usually be a fully synthetic 5w30, what site recommended a 5w40 grade? I don't know of any 5w40 grade oil that meets 504.00 spec.
