    Hi everyone

My boyfriend just proposed to me on xmas eve with a fabulous heirloom ring that he had reset for me in white gold.

I love it so much & have not taking it off since. The only problem is i work as an animal care assistant and am terrified for the ring's safety!! I work with bleach (though i do wear two layers of disposable gloves) and with the veterinary cleaner Safe4 which eventually eats through everything!! I look after both cats and dogs.
Does anyone here have experience with manual jobs and rings and how to protect them?? If so, please tell me what you do!

Buy a replica ring, there are lots of jewelers who do it ,for a reasonable price, thoughit's best to get recommendations, but you can get a very similar ring made that looks almost the same (you'll always know) but you can wear guilt free.

Wear the real one at weekends, nights out and holidays. The reassurance you feel will be worth the added expense.

Hello Congratulations to you..well done him I hope the planning for it is great... I just do not wear my ring if I am working like that or if I am cleaning all the time..Normally I carry the box along with me in my handag incase I need to take it off.. That or you could get another to wear everyday but I would think you would run into the same prolems

Take off the ring and leave it at home while you're working. Not being funny, but it seems obvious to me...

I've seen nurses wear their engagement and wedding rings on a chain around their neck at work, that way you don't have to be without it but it won't get ruined! congratulations by the way!

This is what I used to do on days in work where I'd be doing a lot of lifting or counting coins because it could be rough enough on the ring. I also ended up doing it while I was pregnant because my fingers were so swollen. I went to a jeweller and bought a good strong chain - not a big chunky thing, but nothing really fine and flimsy either - and I was happy out.

You might need to get a safe if you want to do that. You might find that insurance won't apply if you've left the ring unsecured in the house all day.

If the ring's declared on the house insurance, and it's taken in a burglary, then it's covered. I've NEVER seen an insurance policy where I've been asked to keep my rings in a safe if I'm not wearing them. Of course one takes every care to secure the jewellery properly, but not necessarily in a safe.
