Shaving Brush re-knot

I have a Mühle Vivo shaving brush. It has a 21 mm pure badger knot. The plum wood handle is very nice but the knot isn't a good performer. I want it re-knotted with a more dense & higher grade hair. Can anybody on this forum do this for me?

You should be able to do it yourself.

And then use a 2 part ePoxy to set a new knot in the handle.

Sample knot supplier, others can be found on eBay e.g. Viriginia Sheng

Yeah thanks I've had a look @ TGN & YouTube The top of handle has a steel ring which Mühle says is 21 mm. I'm just wondering will it require a 21 mm knot (which are rare) or would I get away with a 20 mm knot. Any ideas?

From what I remember the resin plug on the bottom of the knot is generally 1 or 2 millimeters slimmer than the knot size. So a 24mm knot of hair will have about a 22mm plug. So going by that you should be able to get a 22mm knot into the handle (the plug will be about 20mm).

22mm knots are easy enough to come by.

Having put a knot into exactly 1 handle I can say it's pretty easy to do.

Just remember you might need to put something into the bottom of the hole to raise the knot to the height you want it. If you get a silvertip and like face lathering I would suggest go with a knot height of twice the knot size. So I would a 22mm silvertip knot set at 44mm.

Just thought I should post in here something I found out late last night. Brushes that have a metal ring at the base of the knot can be tricky to get the knot out of. The knot sits in a metal cup (the ring you see is the top part of the cup)

Here is a link to a picture that shows what I mean. It's pretty big so I wont embed it.

You might still be able to get the knot out by cutting the hair and pulling out what's left. Another way that might work is to use steam and the whole cup might possibly come out.

I will try reknot one of my own Semogue brushes at some point and will try out the steam method.

I got it out by using pot and hot water. I've ordered a 22 mm from Whipped Dog Razors. The handle is 21.5 mm inside & the resin base of knot is about same. Should be a tight fit. Thanks for the help.
