DARE Scheme Question

For mental health conditions, do I need a psychiatrist to qualify for DARE?
Is it plausible to even apply if I don't see a psychiatrist?
I am on medication and my school is aware of my conditions.

When you are applying and you state your disability, I believe they then tell you on the form what further paperwork you need to send them. I would expect a specialist report to be required to be honest.

So a report from my GP wouldn't be acceptable?

I'd suggest visiting the DARE section of the CAO website where it gives you all the info you'll need.

In answer to your question- to apply for DARE on the basis of a mental health condition, you will need to submit the Evidence of Disability Form 2015 OR Existing report. Both need to be signed off by a Consultant Psychiatrist on
Specialist Register so a GP letter while it will support your application, won't suffice on it's own.

I don't understand why you wouldn't apply. If you have a condition that they allow, then the psychiatric report will say so. Your GP is hardly treating you for a non-existent condition.

I don't see a psychiatrist though. I'm so confused by the application process.

Your GP can make an appointment with a psychiatrist for you to write the report. It doesn't mean you have to be regularly attending a psychiatrist.

It's like if I have dyslexia and the teachers are aware of it and use strategies to help me, I would still need to see an educational psychologist to give an official report on it for DARE.

Thank you for explaining this fully for me, I really appreciate it :)
