How to upgrade to OS X v10.9 from 10.7.5 for free on Black Macbook 3.1 (late 2007)

I need to upgrade my black Macbook (from late 2007) from OS X 10.7.5 to v10.9 as I have some software I want to install which will only work on a Mac with OS X v10.9 or greater. Mavericks isn't available on the app store anymore and Yosemite won't install on this laptop. I've done a quick Google search and some people say Mavericks won't work on this machine while others say it will. Can anyone confirm? here are the specs:

    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB31.008E.B02
    SMC Version (system): 1.24f3

Is it possible to download Mavericks. Again a quick Google searach seems to show its possible but I'm not sure are the websites trustworthy or not.

According to Apple Support you can't install Mavericks on your Macbook. Min Spec is 2008 Aluminium Macbook.

What is the App you need to install ?

Officially the installer won't work even if you managed to get the Mavericks.app. Unofficially there are a few sites that give instructions on the procedure but it's a bit involved. If you're happy to try it then have a look at this video and determine if it's for you.

Other than that there might be an older version of that software that ran on older Mac OS X versions ?

Good point, will try and find an older version of the software that worked. Cheers.

Ok, I managed to find some older versions of the software so thanks a million for that tip.
