    Hi everyone,

I'm heading to Manchester for a weekend in January with my OH.

Just wondering, can anyone recommend any hotel there? Neither of us familiar with the city at all.

Something in or around the city centre would be great!

    Thanks folks!

The Doubletree is in an excellent location. Almost across the road from the train station that takes you to the airport, it's a short walk to the centre. It's on a main bus route as well. Stayed here 3 years ago when it was called the Citi Hotel and loved it.

just to let you know that Manchester Airport train station will be closed from January 17th until February 9th - if your trip coincides with these dates.

I second the Double Tree. It has the nicest breakfast I've ever eaten.

United are playing twice in January though. Prices will go up for those weekends. Be careful.

OP it always helps if you mention your budget. I don't know if I should be recommending The Lowry or some more other shall we say basic establishment.

Re: the Jurys Inn, it's a good location but I got food poisoning there last year, had to cancel a days work in Manchester that I had flown over for specifically and the staff were rude and unsympathetic when I requested a later checkout to rest before my flight home. Never again.

Otherwise I have had good experiences staying in the McDonald, The Mercure and a couple of The Premier INn Hotels. Do watch carefully for the weekends Man Utd are playing at home as there can be a vast difference in what the hotels will be charging. Same goes for the price and availability of flights.
