First service due for me. What will the garage do and how much. First time for me as I use to drive an old car which I changed oil myself etc.

Well it depends on what the car got in its last service and what mileage is on it. That will govern whether it needs a minor or major service.

Generally a minor service involves safety checks including lights and tyres etc etc fluids check, oil and oil filter change.

Major would be above with potentially more checks suspension etc. air, fuel filter and then a pollen filter depending on mileage.

    Petrol or diesel?

At two + years old it would be due a brake fluid change, could need plugs or fuel filter depending on whether it's petrol or diesel. How many miles are on the car, if there are high miles it could also be due a timing belt change.

Brakes, suspension, fluids, lights and so on should be checked as part of a full service.

If that car is a 1.5 diesel (which most of them are) with a 30k/2 years service interval and is having its first service now it needs:

    oil and oil filter
    cabin filter
check of the bodywork, brakes, exhaust etc.

I'd say the cost at a main dealer would be approx 200 quid.

It wouldn't need a fuel filter, air filter, brake fluid, coolant etc.

The maintenance programme is in the warranty and service booklet which you should have.

It wouldn't need an air filter after 30k km  we had a lot of renault stuff and their intervals are too long for a lot of stuff 60 k km is ridiculously long for a fuel filter in a diesel. Although if you follow their intervals then you won't void the warranty or anything but waiting 60k km to change an air and fuel filter won't do your car any favours oil changes every 30k km is a bit strong too tbh.

    Says who?

I've often heard this sort of stuff from stuck in the past mechanics and daft Americans who think that anything over 3k miles for an oil change is too much.

I follow the Renault schedule and my diesel Megane has 210k kms on it with no issues not that I'd expect any. Although admittedly my one has a 20k interval for oil and oil filter. My 03 Laguna petrol had a 30k km interval and that car has about 500k km on it now and the engine is fine.

I'd go with what these "past" mechanic's say if they are saying that those intervals are too long because tbh they are. The only reason for these long intervals is to make the car more appealing to buyers.

The reason renault and other manufacturers set these high intervals is too attract fleet customers who due to high mileage need the 30k km interval. I can't fault renault stuff my dad had a lot of there commercial vans over the years and they were very reliable but he knocked back the intervals. I'm not the type to change all my filters every 10k km or ridiculously low. But personally I think 30k km is strong for an oil however if you did want to stick to that I'd at least change the fuel filter and air filter every service. Take out an air filter after 60k km and I bet wouldnt be a pretty sight. Just my opinion.

The oil in a Megane is very good and very expensive and should be good enough to get to 30k unless you've got a very hard driver and the guys who calculate warranty have probably worked out the percentages and figure they're safe enough to get through 30k for 99% of drivers.
wouldn't try to get 30k with the wrong oil.
The 1.5dci doesn't appear to burn motor oil where as other cars I've had would be running low after 10k if I didn't keep a check on it.
service costs for me for 30k, 60k and 90k were over 300 euro at a German Main Dealer

The laguna I had was every 18k and renault advised shorting the service interval because of epidemic turbo failure.

For every 1 laguna who made it to 500k there is a 1000 that didn't make it much past 100k

yes diesel 1.5. It will be second service shes on 60000 now. The oil was changed when I bought it at 47000 km. I thought 15000km was long time between changes but they assured me it was ok. I use to change oil and filter in my old petrol megane every 8000 km. Thanks for advice.

03 Laguna with 500k km!!!! Sounds like a triggers brush story lol. I used have a Laguna 03 with 50k miles and it was a pig. Worst car I owned!!!
