Ach, I dunno. I think as a breed they're pretty bombproof. I'd choose one many, many times quicker than I would a terrier to be around small kids. That said, the health problems.. jesus, the health problems...

So do lots of other things
    oo's
    itches
uttpug (you may have to go to YLYL thread to understand that one)

    :D

Buttpug would be fairly unusual. Cause a lot of excitment and probably a life time ban on the Pets Forum.:D

To be honest I would prefer a good terrier or cross than a King Charles who's eyes were about to pop out at the first sign of excitement i.e. when the postman puts a letter through the door.
As far as I know most representations today are far removed from the original breed standard.

Prefer big dogs. Girl I know has a wolfhound X lurcher type, he is like a white raggy rug on legs.

Which is why I referred to the health problems in a negative way, but if you go to a decent breeder you'll avoid the worst of the problems.
Temperament-wise, they're generally infinitely more reliable than any terrier, especially with kids. There are always exceptions, but generally, they're a better choice as a kid's companion than a terrier.:)

Decent breeders of true original stock are hard to find in most dog breeds nowdays. They are out there and have stock available if you are prepared to spend the moon and stars on locating them as they are seldom found in most breed registrars.
However this option is not available to most clients and therefore they have to rely on the inbred, nappy, snappy, eye popping, inbred, hip dysplasia, etc mass produced offerings from the local Club who have feck all scruples when it comes to welfare.
That is my opinion of the pedigree dog world and all it's greedy, financial glory ....

Have a KC found as a rescue - lives outside with the terrier (nice warm kennels & shed) tough as boots but very soft mouthed it couldn't bite if it wanted too. Kids could pull it to bits and it wouldn't even bark either! Vet checked it out and it's has absolutely nowt wrong. Guess I found one of the better ones ;) Terrier on the other hand is a holy terror !

What kind of bike you looking at, eyeing up a decent xc mtb for next Xmas. May buy myself as she doesn't need to know what I spend on them.
    It's the thought that counts
