A multitude of lamps to choose from

Hi all, reading an earlier post has led me to write my own post now.
I have been using the bog standard lamps for foxing up to now, u caller/ lightforce 170 to good effect. But for different reasons including getting sick of heavy batteries and power cables and the fact that these ( what I would call, because of my own ignorance) new small powerful torches seem so more easier on the shooter and giving great results I started looking into them.
Well I think im sorry for starting now.
The more I look the better they look and the more confused I'm getting. On reading various post I narrowed down to the nm800 and then I saw the xsearcher, I thought they were the same thing. Then the pills,I thought they were for headaches. ( see what your dealing with).
So I looked on there web site and looked at what I would maybe order. Holy crap!! is all I can say. So many different complicated model names and numbers.

So anyway I know I will loose out on the long distance flood type of beam for scanning ( no more than 200m on my lands) but I don't want to have a 3 inch 200m beam to search with. So what do you think are the best options.

    Many thanks.

I have tried and tested many lamps over the years.

First off it's hard to beat the LF 140 & 170. Very good long range beams.

This was the best first torch I had with a review

The laser that throws the green beam is good and will throw a narrow beam a long way.

I now have the NM 800 IR and they are very good FOR what I'm using them for.
In conjunction with an old Dedal 200 Gen 2+ spotter it will light up a field and will pick out a fox @ 300m.

    Hi,
just wondering if you have tried it in the field, and how did it perform?
I'm thinking of getting one myself...

Ive gone through all the different types of torches, lamps, night vision etc etc and my setup now is Nm800 on top of the rifle and a hand held Deben rechargeable lamp for scanning. Its extremely light and bright enough with the red filter on without being too bright. I bought the nm800 direct from China for small money and got the Deben for 70 Euros( NO wires and seperate battery packs and Ive often used it for 3 or 4 nights lamping without having to charge it). Best setup I ever had.
You can get fancier, brighter lamps but for what? and they can cost a fortune.
Stay away from the lasers IMO

Hi luvhuntin, just wondering why you use the two lamps, is the nm800 not good enough for scanning. Just wondering because I might be getting one soon, I was going to use it on its own solo lamping.

I shoot alone so I leave the NM800 mounted onto the rifle so its used only when taking the shot. I do think it could be used to scan with its just the Deben has a slightly wider beam on it which I prefer.

Gets a bit messy trying to hold your lamp and shoot and its not a good idea waving your rifle around to scan if the lamp is mounted onto it.

I'm not looking for a laser just a decent torch with a red or green pill.. Don't mind paying good money for a good torch. I just don't want to be wasting if a slightly cheaper torch is just as good. It's down to a NM 800/ T67 or a wild hunter predator.

Well my plan was to try and get a quick release torch mounting for the scope( if that's possible) and hold torch to scan then pop torch on scope to shoot.

That was my plan as well until you get foxes charging at you and and either scared them off with all the noise and fumbling around or by the time i got it on they were gone.

Yea I suppose your right. I wanted to try and slim down lamping kit sick of lamp and batteries and wires getting caught on everything.

had it out the other night great lamp...if its just for foxes the green pill is grand lit up fox eyes and 550 yards .. had it on another fox for round 20 mins at around 200yrds watching him and it didnt bother him atall..tried squelling him in and all he did was sit looking...
only had the hmr and couldnt get any closer so hes there for another night.. going to be getting a red or white pill for it in a week or 2 cus i like to do a bit of bunny bashing and the green isnt great for picking up rabbit eyes..

another thing would be to pick up a good set of batterys..you get a set of uniqefire ones with it but heard there only refurbished laptop cells...
