New Galaxy S4 call distortion, is it normal?

Hi -- I received a new Galaxy S4 via post (also switched network).

I noticed almost immediately, that the call quality is poor through the normal internal speaker (i.e., I'm not talking about headphones or the loud speaker). If the volume is at 50% or below, the problem goes away, but any higher, it is noticeable.

Symptoms are a slight crackle / distorted noise. Basically it's like the sound you get when you turn a cheap small speaker/radio/etc. up to max. It's not overpowering and I can still understand speech almost perfectly, but it is still a really annoying quirk.

If it's just the way the phone is at high volumes, I could accept it. Can any other S4 owners pitch in with your experience?

I have already been on to the operator who were pretty useless, but obviously offered a refund which I would rather avoid unless I know a replacement will fix the problem.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Happy Xmas!
