It's also off mats till March Benny if that makes a difference to you. When I say mats I mean carry a mat with you i.e. no hitting off fairways

yea suppose that ruins it a bit! although never played of mats. surprised at it been members only over the crimbo period as every other club is running opens. There obviously not under any financial pressure!

Ah its just a course on my bucket list I always wanted to play, maybe the mats would ruin it. Don't understand why links courses use mats during winter taught the whole point of links is you can play it all year round!

They use mats to protect the turf grass, because there is little to no grass growth this time of year, most courses give you the option of using a mat or dropping off to the side of the fairway into the semi rough.

That's the understatement of the year!

I was down there during the summer and there was busloads of Americans pulling up to play - at €120+ per round! I'd say they make more in a week in Summer on green fees than most courses do in a year.

Lahinch, Ballybunion and the other first rate links courses must be rolling in cash.

As for playing on mats - well, it's like another 'activity' that you have to engage in using protection. Not bad, but not quite the thing! If I were you, I'd wait and play it bareback in the spring/summer - it's almost as good as that 'other' activity :-)

Ha! I couldn't justify 100+ a round anywhere though 50/60 is my limit. Playing the European for 50 order the crimbo first time, when I rang 2 ask how much he said as long as u have a gui and r irish and don't rock up with a load of Americans its 50 classic and good 2 see good courses looking after ther own!

Father in law is a member but he would on his own words not bring anyone to play it until march because of the mats. Try doonbeg believe they have green fee for €60 over the xmas
