Home Heating Oil Prices

    Hey all,

Have to stump up for 500 litres of kerosene pretty soon, thought now would be a good time seeing as the price of oil is plummeting. My girlfriend rang East Cork Oil (Midleton, we're in Castlemartyr in East Cork) today for a quote and was told the unit price was 75c. I looked back through some old receipts and we bought 500 litres from this company back in August 2011 and the unit price was 70.48. Just though it was a little odd that it seemed to be more expensive now. I'm assuming it's because of the time of year but thought I would put it out there to see.

Does a unit price of 75c seem right?

    Cheers

Carbon tax increased may 2012, it would count for some of it, hold off as long as you can it might drop, not well up on it but just because a barrel of oil is dropping does not mean all the products from it are dropping

It's been steadily dropping since November http://www.cheapestoil.ie/articles/trend.aspx

I think you'll find price will vary around the amount you want, remember the delivery cost is built into the unit ltr price, getting a few hundred will obviously get you a lot less than 500.

Cheers lads, used the cheapestoil link to get a few numbers and rang around. Every crowd that services out my way is charging 340 euros, VAT inclusive, for 500 litres of kerosene. Seems ok but the conspiracy theorist in me thought it seemed a little cartel-ish!

    Anyway, thanks again!

Forgot why I stopped posting on this site for advice but thanks for reminding me, comedians (I use the term extremely loosely) waiting to pick apart what you said and feed it back to you. Very funny.

Spoke to the missus, now told they said the basic unit was around the 70c mark but went down the more you bought. Good to know now.

you should buy by the litre and not by the euro to get the deals. it wasn't to long ago people had to pay a euro a litre if they bought 250 litres or less. if they could get an extra 100 euro they would of got it for 90 cents a litre!
you should ask them how much would it be for a full tank?? you wont get oil any cheaper than what it is at the moment.

    No offence intended.
But I do know the costs of running a €100,000 oil truck + driver in your area.

Most oil companys are trying to deliver the best price to customers.

    Were here to help. FOC

+ it's great prices are down.
You were complaining, + saying there's a cartel, not me.

+ With a little bit of humour !!!
    Sorrieeee.

Still dropping. Hard to tell for how long, but personally I would wait a while longer.

Have prices bottomed out ( Kerosene) or should one hang on.....1000 litres now at E450.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,694 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Well didn't the price of a barrel go up by $1 the other day?

It may have bottomed out, although listening to some analysis on the radio over recent weeks, it's expected to remain low for most of next year.

There are talks that these low prices will force some distributors out of the market leaving less competition and price increases, but you never know with oil.

    I would buy now.

Oil hasn't never been as cheap so buy now. .0.45 cent a liter is so cheap considering where it has to come from.
A bottle of water is more expensive. Enough said

I just order it when required, ordered Kero today at 51C/Ltr, the last time it approached these sort of levels was 2005, I paid 53.5C/Ltr on 23/5/2005, the dearest was 92.0C/Ltr on 14/11/2012 and the first recorded price that I have is 29.85C/Ltr (equivalent) on 6/11/1993.

If getting close to 1000 litres, you should not be paying much more than .48 c incl vat.

Its a bit like Guinness with me, its the shortage (Tank running dry) worries me more than the price.
