Does anybody know how much you would give for one of these cars with over 120000 miles on the clock? Are they a solid, reliable car?

Is it TDI, TFSI, SE, S line, Quattro? etc

Old model or newer type? It will boil down to spec and condition too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 theperson2014

    It's the new model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭Gazzmonkey

They seem to have gone up in price from last year, but your still looking at around €12,000 if it's in top nick with VRT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

A cousin of mine sold his 08 with 100k miles on it and in need of a new flywheel for €10k over a year ago. I wouldn't be paying much over that for a similar vintage good one these days. It's 7 years old in another week or so.

Exactly. Bad memories of my oil pump failing are flooding back to me. From speaking with a couple of mechanics since, they dont last past 100000 miles, 1.9tdi on the other hand. I wouldn't man, thats all. Down to personal experience

    2008 B7 2.0 PDTDI - avoid like the plague
    2008 B8 2.0 CRTDI - fantastic engine

Which one are you referring to?

    Avoid like the plague

    Grand so....

You'll be over the moon to hear that the PDTDI isn't available in the B8 platform at all.

I'm guessing you had maybe the BLB engine, I have the CAGA and I can't fault it.

    Then again, never say never

You would probably get one for 12,000 if you're lucky. The car is 7 years old now. Don't buy privately as you won't have any comeback.

€12k is alot of money for a 7yo car. Even if it is an audi. Buying from a dealer you might get 1yr warranty if your lucky

Jesus there's not a hope I'd give 12 grand for a car of that age even if it is an audi!

I spent €2600 on a new clutch when mine was about 4 years old. Now need to spend another €2000 plus on other issues. Never going Audi again. Just not good enough.

Why was the clutch so expensive to replace?

I'm really not sure. It's a Hydraulic clutch. Was new technology in 08

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

That price probably includes replacing the dual mass flywheel too and that price is probably from a main dealer. They can be done by an independent garage for less.

I'm not looking forward to changing mine when the time comes if it's going to cost that much.........

Main dealer replaced my clutch in a superb. Clutch bearing and dmf €1300. Mechanical components basically the same as Audi.
    Audi milking it ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭Todd Toddington III

Probably a combination of more expensive parts and the main dealer milking it, someone has to pay for all that glass on the forecourts

    1908 maybe.
As above, cost included consumable flywheel. And probably a hefty dose of markup to give you the audi experience rather than the skoda experience.

The A4 has the engine mounted length ways too so the job maybe more labour intensive than on the likes of the Superb.

Plausible but would depends on the difference in labour rates, price of parts, duration of work and what exactly was done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 theperson2014

Is the A4 worth getting then? Such a looker.

    No,buy a Skoda.

From memory, the front subframe needs to be removed on the A4 (and Mondeo) to replace the clutch, so there's a lot more labour involved in the clutch replacement than there is on a Superb.

No it wasn't, my 98 Honda had a hydraulic clutch

You're probably thinking of a dual mass flywheel

Awful looking yokes, esp the Octavia's.

What!? I know a guy with a 2008 2.0tdi that has 202,000 miles on clock, to say they dont last past 100,000 is just a stupendous comment!

George Dalton has quoted 850 for B7 and 1150 for B8

Amazes me how much a4s are selling for. I was buying a new car in Jan and they were consistently 2/3k more than the equivalent 3 series and often with 120k plus miles on them.. I just don't understand it.

I personally think they look great and are reliable but the drive is not that good..

I've had rear wheel drive for the last 5 years though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The reason they fetch more than an equivalent 3 Series is that the A4 was launched in 2008 and is still the current model whereas the 3 Series was launched back in 2005 and was replaced by a newer model in 2012. The E90 hasn't aged better and bar the driving experience the A4 overall is a better package.

    Well that's subjective really..

Point taken on it being the current model, thats probably the main reason.

The e90s are generally more powerful and more economical though and in fairness they were facelifted in 2008 too. I don't see how the A4 is a better package at all.

    Maybe I'm biased :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I had an E90 myself for 3 years and I'm no fan of the A4 either but I can kind of see where your average joe is coming from. The A4 is obviously a more modern and attractive design, it's larger on the inside than the E90 too and the dashboard is better thought out. For alot of people it's the aesthetics that draw them to the A4 imo.

We'll agree to disagree so. I find the facelifted E90 more attractive most of the time :)
