Passenger to Commercial Conversion Pre VRT

There seems to be some confusion about this since I last did it in 2008.

I am looking to import either an L322 range rover or Discovery 4 from the UK (almost nothing available here in Vogue SE / HSE spec (respectively)

The conversion process seems to suggest I can convert pre-vrt and pay the 13.3% rate vs the 36% rate. Can anyone confirm this ?

Also Can I only do this up to 2010 vehicles or is there a way for >2011 to be converted.

On these specific vehicles can anyone tell me the physical modifications that the SQI has to make to get these into the commercial category. Is it just fit EU approved ratchet straps , or is a dog guard / metal plating windows needed ?

also will having a panoramic sunroof or other extras impact the ability to convert ?

Don't post 2010 imports have to come from the factory as N1 so you can't do it pre VRT any more?

thats what I thought, but a few car dealers I've asked have offered to source me cars from the uk 2011 and 2012 models claiming they're eligible for 13.3% vrt. At that end id rather do it myself , and was 100% sure that 2010 was the limit, now Im not completely sure. At 13.3% theres a lot of value to be had, at 36% its all overpriced compared to the local stuff by the time its on irish plates.

there has been some changes made to the law lately which may clear some items up,

according to the above article as long as the manufacture has put a N1 stamp on the 4x4 it can be taxed and vrt as a commercial .

There's no clarification there of needing employees PPS nos for getting commercial motor tax on a 5 seater although it intimates it's fine for family use. Even without that, there's a huge saving on VRT and VAT if you can reclaim it.

to be fair thats a tax office juggle. If your not familiar with your local tax office crew cab form (a lot are available online) then try get the seller to put 3 months tax on it and you can just keep renewing online without the form.

I know that dublin south and kildare are fine with just a VAT/ Herd number. Cant vouch for the rest of the country.
