Car bluetooth and Android (Moto-X 2014)

    Hi,
I have been trying out a few phones on my wife's car which supports bluetooth a2dp. Ideally what I want to get working is the whole concept of reading text messages out to me while driving. What I find those is that I have to have the radio set up for the bluetooth channel if I want to hear it. I had hoped that I could be listening to standard radio, and if a text came through that it would automatically switch to bluetooth, much like when a phone call comes through.
Perhaps it's just the car, and other car systems work differently. Has anyone played around with this and managed to get the phone to take control of the radio when a text or notification comes through?
    Thanks

AFAIK, A2DP is purely only for passing Audio over Bluetooth (i.e phone calls, music, sound etc) and the concept of reading the text messages (like the Ford Fiesta ads doing the rounds) depends on the unit itself (as in it pulls in the text messages from your phone, then uses their own software to read the text aloud - this is not phone dependant). What's the car / head unit itself? Have you been successful in playing music over Bluetooth? Often you have to select the Bluetooth settings for each device (calls, media etc) like the screenshot below, Media Audio is required to play music where as Phone Audio is obvious.

Cheers. It's a 2012 Kia C'eed. I have played music, and if my phone reads a text out then I can hear it over the radio, but I need to have been already listening to the bluetooth channel. If I had been listening to the regular radio then I hear nothing. It would be nice if the while thing worked the same as phone calls where the phone just took over but I guess I'm out of luck. (It's the same idea for voice navigation...eould be nice if I could listen to the radio and when there was a navigation update the phone took control, but like the messages I need to be already on the bluetooth channel.)

I must have a closer look at the settings tomorrow to see if I have some choices like your screenshot showed.

    Thanks
