Car Insurance after collision

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give me advice.

I recently rear ended another car in a car in which I am a named driver literally a week before I was planning to buy my first car...

I had received insurance quotes for between 600-1000 on a 1.6 2006 hatchback.

I have two questions, how long does it usually take for a claim to close? Both cars have received repair quotes at this stage.

Also, do you have any idea how much my insurance will go up to on say a 1.4 focus 2008? I asked several insurance brokers and they were unwilling to even give me a personal estimation... Could you let me know your experiences and what you think it will be? I've been told by a friend that it could be up to 2k.

    Thanks for any advice

I would try using online quotes (Libertyinsurance.ie, 25plus.ie and so on), most of the time you are able to put any "claims" in there and see how much they quote you.

You will find it near impossible for another insurance company to quote you if there is an open claim on your policy. However as it is not your policy that the claim is open on then I'm not sure where insurance companies stand on that.

Thanks I got a nice quote using the estimates I've received from 25plus.

Regarding the open claim, they won't quote me as the claim is under my name, it doesn't matter that it isn't my policy.
