Had this for pretend Christmas dinner with the OH yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised. it cooked well from frozen in about 2.5 hours and had a great flavour. This was possibly reduced as it got an uncomplementary write up in the Guardian the other day. Thought it was very nice, worth the money, and very handy if you are having a very little christmas. Would work well with a little bit of ham I thought. plenty of stock in Aldi on Belgard Road as of 5pm yesterday

Sorry - can't edit subject, but just looking at the receipt and it was actually €6.50... spare 45c for most of an extra bag of mandarins...

I saw a three bird roast while doing the shopping and was thinking who thought of that, who got a lovely roast chicken and thought you know what this needs two other birds stuffed inside it. Turns out when they got to three someone else said why stop there?

Aldi round top iced christmas cake reduced to 3 euro 50,its only an iced top cake with marsipan underneath,no icing on the sides, but its a nice cake to eat.

The 5 bird is reduces to E6. The 4 bird is not.

Both were side by side in the freezer.

Far too much stuffing and not enough birds in those.

    Seen this the other day.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Processed crap is going to taste like processed crap no matter how you package it.

Did you read the review? The four & five bird roasts are listed under 5 of the BEST offerings and get a good review. Thanks OP.

Think the praise is limited to the 4-bird version. "The 5-bird roast is spoiled by its OTT clementine stuffing".

A slight hint of clementine but not overpowering at all I found. Would agree that the stuffing is a little over-processed (insofar as it is almost like a thick paste, rather than bread-crumby) but I find that to be the case with any pre-stuffed meat. the meat itself was was very nice though.

I bought one a few days ago after I heard some customers saying 'you couldn't go wrong at that price'. Was planning to have it with something else (probably the Lidl salmon en croute, half-price at 2.99) when a couple of relatives visit over Christmas.

Aldi did half price on festive stuff including Turkey's, Salmon etc on last Christmas Eve. I'm holding out just in case they go again tomorrow morning.

Wouldn't be thawed out for cooking on Xmas Day though.

Cooked well from frozen for me. didn't use the foil dish it came in but a normal roasting dish wrapped in tinfoil for the first 90mins, then finished it uncovered for about 50-60 mins. took it out to rest for 30 mins then. Spot on it was

Sorry this isn't about the 5-bird roast, but hardly any point in starting a separate thread.

Was just in Aldi Bray there tonight, (to buy cream) and saw that the half-horseshoe ham, with a sticker on it saying 'Weekly special - €4.99 per kg' also had a 30% off marked price sticker. As those stickers are normally on the near-to-use-by date, I checked - it's use by 16/1/15. The price had been €12.13.

After buying a few other things, on the way out I checked the receipt, to make sure I got the 30% reduction, but I'd been given a 50% reduction, and only paid €6.07 for the ham.

Don't know if this is in all stores - or if by some chance, that checkout person incorrectly put in 50% instead of 30%.

Aldi Finglas also had that ham, got one see from receipt 30% taken off. They had turkey crowns marked 30% off too. Heard that Eurospar on Ballymun Rd have veg and fruit for practically nothing in case anyone is around that way. Its not the one in Gullivers Retail Park - never seen a bargain in that one. WWasn't in there myself as my veg shop is already done.
