Wii disk read error - Ideas?

    Folks,
We have a 5 yr old Wii. Suddenly, it won't read the games.
So I youtubed solutions, took it apart, cleaned the lens, found no objects within, put it back together but still won't work.
It tends to recognise the game (displaying it in the top left screen) and might get some way thru the menu selections, but then displays a "reading the disk ..." message before finally failing before we get to actually play.
As it tries to read the disk, I can hear clicking, which I think is the lens moving across the disk in an attempt to read it.
    Any ideas please?

Laser is probably weak/about to fail. This isn't uncommon on laser based consoles, a replacement should be handy enough for you to fit if you've already stripped it down to clean it etc

Alternatively, if you soft nodded and manually updated it over the years, check you aren't a few revs behind on an ios or two. That happened to me with rock band 3, same symptoms. The fix got rid of my intermittent read errors on GH3 too.
