    Hi

    I have 2009 Avensis T4 estate

Twice now, the doors have locked with the fob in the car and we have to get someone to pick up the spare

I though it wasn't supposed to allow this to happen

Anyone have any ideas as to why its locking the car even though the fob is in the car

    DT

dont leave fob in the car, wonder does someone have your signal to activate it,someone got their eye on it?
does it happen in same spot or elsewhere?

Herself keeps it in the handbag and throws it in...

Not in the same place , one was getting new tryes dub west and the other other side of the city dub south

am more concerned that it will happen and the little toddler is in the car

So she opens the car and puts the handbag inside but doesn't start the car and then the doors lock ?

I'd say it's a problem with your door to be honest, the microswitch in the door to tell the car's ecu that the door has been opened is probably faulty, so the car thinks you've unlocked the car with the fob and then walked away without opening the doors,it then relocks them after a set perio - this is a built in security feature.

To test this check if the interior lights come on when you open the door,or that the door open warning on the dash comes on.

when we bring car into the garage before getting out a window is lowered in case it self locks.

Tossy's post x100 - this is the case any time I've seen this happen.

Will check it out, so if the lights or dash dont come on, then is a problem with the door switch ?

In the lexus IS the car knows when the key is inside it and doesn't lock. I'd have thought the avensis is the same. Assume you use the button on the door to lock?

Does this happen with both keys?
Are they still on the original batteries?

My car has this problem you've described Tossy. Any ideas how much a new switch would cost for a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Should be able to fit it myself once I get time.
    Thanks

I wouldn't have a clue sorry, i would google some of the toyota forums it may even be a case of some contact cleaner fixing the problem for you.

Could be damaged from the seatbelt getting caught in the door too.
