I got my first DSLR camera yesterday , Nikon d5300 , but when i put the pics onto my ipad4 the image doesn't fill the screen ... There's a half inch gap at the top and bottom of the screen. I checked the image settings to large and fine but no change . My old Nikon P510 didn't have this issue . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean fill the screen? What are you using to view the photos? They will never match the iPad display exactly, and you may need to pinch to zoom in or out.

you'll probably find that the aspect ratio - the ratio between the height and width of the image - is more 'elongated' for your camera than it is for the ipad. so what you're seeing is exactly analogous to letterboxing when viewing a widescreen image on a TV.

yep, just checked; the D5300 takes 3:2 images, and the ipad display is 4:3.
