Replacement Laptop/Tablet

Hi, my current laptop (HP Pavilion G6, A10 Quadcore with Radeon HD7660G) is dying and I need a quick replacement.
I mainly use it for college work, chrome excel & word mainly, some CAD and Gaming but these are not necessary for replacement laptop.
I was wondering is a Chromebook a good replacement that will tie me over for a few months? Or if not, could someone recommend a okayish laptop? Around 200-300 would be ideal.
I would consider a tablet either, just dont know which one too pick though!

    Thanks
    Iainkw4x.

    Hi,
what exactly is wrong with the laptop?
some laptops just need to be wiped clean with a fresh install and updated drivers and they work fine again for another few years.

The hinge and LCD screen frame are damaged beyond repair, as well as the screen surround, I was managing fine with this damage but lately the display has been going all funny from the wear.

A used thinkpad or latitude is always a good bet. And they generally last forever. You won't have hinges giving way. An i5 T420 with an SSD would be an excellent replacement.

HP's consumer grade notebooks have poor build quality IME.
